Downy Woodpecker Balsa Ornament

The downy woodpecker is the smallest woodpecker in North America. They help to protect our trees by eating bugs and larvae, but they can often be found at the birdfeeder. This downy is a male, because only males have a red patch on the back of their heads.

Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
