Ceramic Luminaries

All of our luminaries are made by artisans in San Juan de Oriente, Nicaragua.  This small town is known for generations of ceramicists passing along their traditional work to their children and grandchildren.  Each piece is created on a non-electric kick-wheel, hand-painted, and drawn with a sharpened bicycle spoke.  Can you imagine, using a bicycle spoke to create the butterflies and turtles?  The luminaries cast beautiful light onto the surrounding walls when lit with a candle or twinkle lights.
