Purple martins and humans have had a bond ever since the Native Americans put out gourds for them to live in. The Native Americans relied on purple martins to help them keep insects off of their crops. Today, purple martins choose to nest exclusively in bird houses. They are a popular bird amongst birders who call themselves "martin enthusiasts."
Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
