Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly Balsa Ornament

The tiger swallowtail butterfly is a colorful yellow butterfly with "tiger stripes." They are excellent pollinators and the males can be found seeking out moisture and mineral in the mud - "mud-pudding." Tiger swallowtails practice mimicry - imitating the pipevine butterfly (which is poisonous) so that their predators stay away.

Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
