Sea turtles lay their eggs in the sand, where they incubate for up to 100 days. The temperature of the sand determines the sex of the turtle. When they are ready to hatch, they do this in unison, coming out of the sand and making their way into the ocean. Some refer to this as a "turtle boil" because the sand looks like it is boiling until the turtles emerge.
Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
