This bird gets its name from a shrill wailing "kill deer". This shorebird builds it nest right out in on the ground. They are actors when someone there is a threat to their nest. They act like they broke their wing to distract intruders away from the nest. Now if a larger animal happens is in danger of walking on their they fluff up their feather and pull their tail over their head and run toward the passerby in hopes it will walk in another direction.
Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
