The leatherback turtle is the largest sea turtle and has been around since the dinosaurs. It does not have a hard shell like other sea turtles, but instead a leathery skin that covers its interlocking bones. These turtles migrate up to 10,000 miles a year. They primarity eat jellyfish which puts them at risk of eating the plastic bags that litter our oceans. This has caused them to become endangered.
Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
