Loggerhead Shrike Balsa Ornament

The loggerhead shrike is a small songbird, not any bigger than a robin. But don't let its small size fool you. The behavior of a shrike resembles that of a raptor. In addition to their sharp hooked bills, they are known to use sharp objects like thorns and barbed wire to impale their prey.

Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
