Luna Moth Balsa Ornament

The beautiful luna moth, with its seafoam wings and long tails, is only found in North America. It starts as a caterpillar, and a very hungry catepillar at that, eating every walnut, hickory, sweet gum, and paper birch leaf it can find. Then, it makes a cocoon, and 3 weeks later the luna moth emerges. The moth only lives about a week, sustained by all the food the catepillar ate.

Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
