Manatee Balsa Ornament

It is hard to believe that a cow-like mammal inspired the mythical mermaid, but the Manatee did! They are also more closely related to elephants than they are other marine animals. These graceful swimmers are highly intelligent and are able to perform tasks like dolphins can.

Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
