The American oystercatcher is an easily recognized wading shorebird. They have a bright orange-red bill that they jab into bivalve shells to sever the muscle that keeps the shell shut. Once called the sea pie, the oystercatcher got its name from eating oysters, naturally!
Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
