Blue poison dart frogs like to eat poison ants and insects. The toxic compounds are absorbed into their skin, making them poisonous to potential predators. The more toxic they are, the more vibrant their blue color. They got their name from Indigenous people, who used their secretions on the end of arrows or blowdarts.
Made out of sustainably harvested balsa wood, these lightweight ornaments are hand-carved and then painted with non-toxic acrylic paint by a cooperative of skilled artisans on Isla Solentiname, Nicaragua. Approximate size: 5" x 2".
